The region is located in the steppe zone of the East European Plain in the lower reaches of the Dnieper. From west to east, the region stretches for 258 km, from south to north for almost 180 km. The extreme points of the Kherson region are: in the north the village of Fedorivka, Vysokopil district, in the south - the Sivash railway station (Chongar peninsula) of the Genichesk district, in the west - Cape Seredny on the Yahorlytskyi Kut peninsula in the Holoprystan district and in the east the village of Novy Azov, Genichesk district. It is washed by the Black and Azov seas. 19 rivers flow through the region. The largest of which are: Dnipro - 178 km long, Ingulets - 180 km long.
The region consists of 49 communities (9 urban, 17 settlement and 23 rural) and 5 districts (Beryslav with an area of 4747.1 km²; Henichesky with an area of 7120.5 km²; Kakhovsky with an area of 6395.8 km²; Skadovsky with an area of 5255.0 km²; Kherson with an area of 3841.9 km²).
